Streszczenie
Though in common use in western European countries, structured professional judgement of criminal violence risk (SPJ) is a relatively new approach in the Polish forensic psychiatry system. The research presented in this study, whose primary aim is to identify the most important predictors of violence risk level in a group of Polish patients receiving treatment in forensic psychiatry units, is mostly exploratory. The 101 participants in the research were exclusively Polish, male detainees at three psychiatric hospitals with forensic psychiatry wards: the S. Kryzan Hospital for the Nervously and Mentally Ill in Starogard Gdański, the State Hospital for Mental Diseases in Rybnik, and the Józef Babiński Psychiatric Hospital in Kraków. Statistical analysis of the results confirmed a low, positive relationship between a risk factor summary and final case prioritisation assessment. The six most important risk level predictors were also selected: H1c. Violence as an Adult, H10. Treatment or supervision response, C2. Violent ideation or intent, C4c. Cognitive instability, R2. Living situation, R3. Personal support. The practical implications of this study point to the constant need for further development of risk management tools in Poland and the introduction of modern solutions at the institutional level.
