APPLICATION OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE CONCEPT IN FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY IN A CONTEXT OF RESEARCH ON PSYCHOPATHY

In the forensic psychology emotional intelligence (EI) construct is, among others, applied in research on mechanisms of affective processes’ disorders that are present in psychopathy. This term turns up also in a context of theories emphasising adaptive characteristics of psychopaths, determining their specific lifestyle basing on exploiting social environment in which they are. The aim of this article is an attempt to put in order various research reports concerning relationships between psychopathy and emotional intelligence. In the undertaken analysis, one focused mainly on discussion on factors that are important from the perspective of emotional intelligence examination in persons with psychopathic characteristics: the used model and tool for measurement of emotional intelligence, research sample selection, identification of the psychopathy subtype or accepted level of analysis. Moreover, one indicated areas of potential use of emotional intelligence concept in judicial and penitentiary practice in relation to criminal psychopaths.
