3-FLUOROPHENMETRAZINE – A NEW PSYCHOACTIVE SUBSTANCE ON THE POLISH DRUG MARKET

3-fluorophenmetrazine (3-FPM) is a fluorinated analogue of phenmetrazine that appeared on the European illegal drug market in 2014. It has been sold in Poland since 2015. In February 2016, 3-FPM was detected in biological material for the first time at the Institute of Forensic Research in Kraków. Blood had been collected from a driver involved in a single car incident. A blood screening was performed by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), indicating its suitability for the detection of this compound. Liquid-liquid extraction was applied for the isolation of 3-FPM from the biological matrix. A liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method for the determination of 3-FPM was developed, validated and successfully used. The analysis was carried out in multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode. The presence of 3-FPM at a concentration of 2.77 µg/ml was revealed. Despite the lack of clear symptoms in the above mentioned driver, the high concentration revealed in his blood and its interpretation in the light of recent literature reports suggest that 3-FPM should be treated as a potentially dangerous substance in traffic safety.
