Streszczenie
An important part of footwear mark analysis for forensic purposes is the identification of (shoe) sole imprints, which is the basis for determining the type and make of shoe which was worn by a suspect during commission of a crime. Such analysis is performed when a footwear mark has been collected at a crime scene but suspects have not yet been found during an investigation. In order to determine the shoe type, information from suitable databases should be used. In this paper, the authors present examples of such databases used around the world as well as practical applications of a database developed at the Institute of Forensic Research, Kraków, Poland.
