StreszczenieTLC analysis on silica plates is commonly used as a screening technique in the analysis of explosives. As various solvent systems are used in different laboratories, the question arises as to which of these systems is most effective. To answer this question various solvent systems were used to separate a mixture of six common organic explosive compounds: NC, EGDN, NG, TNT, RDX and PETN on silica plates and the results were evaluated. Be cause of medium polarity, CN modified TLC plates seem to be more appropriate for the analysis of explosives than silica plates. To check if in fact CN modified plates are more effective in this application, mobile phase optimization was conducted. Mobile phases were found enabling separation of all six explosive compounds, which was not possible on silica plates, proving that CN modified plates are better for screening analysis of explosives.
