Streszczenie
The aim of this study was to evaluate the image analysis system as a tool for forensic hair comparison. 50 blond and 50 brown hairs were examined under a light microscope. Images of every hair were then analysed by Lucia 4.51 image analysis software. Values of RGB components were determined in order to estimate colour ranges for blond and brown hair colours. RGB component values of blond hairs range from 207–182–57 (the darkest) to 243–224–206 (the brightest), whereas those of brown hairs range from 83–74–55 (the darkest) to 222–199–182 (the brightest). Estimated ranges are unique to the colours. This indicates that the RGB model is a reliable basis for forensic hair comparisons. This conclusion was confirmed by comparison of the effectiveness of the traditional and the RGB method: the latter method provided better results.
