GENETIC VARIABILITY IN A PORTION OF CODING REGION OF MITOCHONDRIAL DNA ENCOMPASSING NUCLEOTIDE POSITIONS 9995–10995

Streszczenie
The main limitation of the identification process based on mitochondrial DNA analysis is its relatively low power of discrimination. A reasonable solution to this drawback seems to be analysis of additional information present out of the routinely analysed control region. Due to the presence of medical information in the coding sequence of mitochondrial DNA, the analysis should encompass only particular polymorphic positions – Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms consisting of silent or neutral mutations and an appropriate variants frequency. The objective of this study was to determine the degree of variation characteristic of a fragment of the coding region of mitochondrial DNA and to find Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms useful for forensic identification studies.
