Α-PVT – A “SUCCESSOR” TO Α-PVP, A NEW PSYCHOACTIVE SUBSTANCE IN BIOLOGICAL MATERIAL. CASE ANALYSIS

α-Pyrrolidinopentiothiophenone (α-PVT) is a derivative of cathinone, and was first synthesized in the 1960s. It is a so-called designer drug and appeared on the drug market in the second half of 2015, as an analogue of α-pyrrolidinopentiophenone (α-PVP). α-PVT is administered “recreationally” at doses about 20% higher than α-PVP (up to 12 mg). The effects include strong excitation, improvement of well-being, euphoria, sexual arousal, intensification of musical perception, sweating, higher sensitivity of pupils to light, tachycardia, insomnia, and lack of appetite. The effects last up to 2 h. According to information obtained from users, α-PVT is a “more polite” version of α-PVP, as α-PVT does not cause extreme states, varying from euphoria to psychosis, within a short period of time. Screening of blood was performed by immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and targeted analyses for α-PVT were carried out by the LC-MS/MS technique. The author presents the first case of α-PVT determination in biological material. Its concentration in the blood of a driver who caused a traffic accident was 13 ng/ml. There are no reports concerning concentrations of α-PVT in the blood, which is why this work is particularly important in the context of toxicological analysis, especially for judicial purposes.
