Streszczenie
Formulation, which is now described as a core competence for mental health specialists, including forensic mental health specialists, is the effect of gathering and integrating knowledge about the patient. It aims to help clinicians recognize the sources of a person’s problems so that further treatment plans and interventions can be implemented. Given the legal requirements there is a growing need in the forensic setting for an individual theory of violent acts in specific cases. This article aims to present the concept of formulation and to attempt to develop a rationale for its usefulness in the practice of forensic mental health specialists. Two psycho-criminological theories are described in relation to their utility in processes of formulation concerning violent offenders in forensic settings.
