RESEARCH REVIEW: THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL PHENOMENA ON ADAPTATION FOLLOWING SEXUAL VIOLENCE

Streszczenie
The article investigates the socio-interpersonal factors that play a significant role in the post-traumatic adaptation of people who have experienced sexual violence in adulthood. It begins by defining sexual violence with the purpose of unifying the information arising from legal and social definitions. The focus then switches to a review of the research on the socio-interpersonal factors that can contribute to the maintenance of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in victims of sexual violence. Account is taken of the influence of variables such as social acknowledgement, social reactions, social exclusion, social support, the reactions of partners, family and close friends, the responses of the public-order institutions, the responses of victim-support institutions, social exclusion, and social support. Before drawing conclusions and setting out practical implications, the article discusses the complexity of the issue and its interdisciplinary dimension.
