Streszczenie
The current study attempts to test the relationship between the accuracy of knowledge of cues to deception and the ability to detect deceit. One-hundred and one-observers watched eight video clips of four liars and four truth tellers. Their knowledge regarding behaviours indicative of deception was also tested. The findings revealed, as have many previous studies, that observers were not able to detect truths and lies above the level of chance. Observers also had a tendency to more frequently judge statements as truthful (truth bias). Those participants with a more accurate knowledge of cues to deception showed higher accuracy in overall deception detection and in truth detection. The implications of these findings for deception researchers and lie detection practice are discussed.
