PSYCHOACTIVE AGENTS IN TRAFFIC USERS IN THE PRACTICE OF THE FORENSIC MEDICINE DEPARTMENT, MEDICAL ACADEMY OF SILESIA, KATOWICE

Streszczenie
The raising number of traffic users being under the influence of drugs or acting similarly to alcohol agents that have an effect on the CNS has been observed in the recent years. 157 blood samples collected from traffic users suspected of having taken psychoactive agents were examined in the Forensic Medicine Department, Medical Academy of Silesia, Katowice in the years 1997–2003. 42 blood samples were positive. Opium alkaloids, opium alkaloids and barbiturates or benzodiazepines (20 cases) as well as opium alkaloids and amphetamine (2 cases) were found more often in the blood samples examined. Amphetamine and its derivatives were found in 10 cases. Cocaine was found in 1 case. Furthermore, benzodiazepines (3 cases), benzodiazepines and barbiturates (1 case), benzodiazepines and Tramal (2 cases) and benzodiazepines with tricyclic antidepressants (1 case) were found in the examined blood of the traffic users. Thiorydazine and benzene with toluene were found in single cases. The concentration of all these substances ranged widely. Alcohol was found in 4 cases.
