Streszczenie
Investigations of car paint fragments revealed at the scene of a crime, on the victim’s clothing or on the tool used in the act often supply information that helps investigators to reach conclusions about the course of the event. Determination of the morphology and the chemical composition of a sample of car paint using optical microscopy, IR and UV/VIS microspectrometry and methods of elemental analysis most frequently permits effective assessment of the degree of similarity between the evidence and comparative material and ascertainment of the type of car paint. Sometimes, however, drawing inferences is difficult. The presented cases are selected examples that illustrate the usefulness of the applied methods and at the same time highlight difficulties which occur in the interpretation of obtained results.
