Streszczenie
One of the basic elements of the reconstruction of nearly any traffic accident is establishing the initial speed of the vehicle. One of the methods of calculating this speed is based on skid mark lengths visible on the roadway. This paper presents the investigation results of braking of five vehicles with no ABS. The tests were carried out on a dry road surface with a high adhesion coefficient. In the tests, the basic physical data were recorded with Corrsys Korrelatorsysteme Correvit S-CE sensor. The skid mark lengths were measured in each test. On the basis of tests' results, quantitative dependences between the measured values were established. Using this information, an alternative method of calculating vehicle speed on the basis of skid mark lenths was developed.
