Streszczenie
The meta-analysis presented here attempts to summarise the theoretical and empirical reports on the nature of aggression manifested by people with psychopathic and narcissistic personality characteristics, who have been re-imprisoned for committing aggressive acts. The paper opens with a discussion of the psychological mechanisms that may result in aggressive and auto-aggressive behaviours and, because of its prevalence in prisons, pays special attention to the phenomenon of auto-destructive behaviour. The paper then presents an account of psychopathy and narcissism as personality correlates of aggression among recidivists before finally moving to delineate the dependencies occurring between psychopathic and narcissistic traits and the instrumental value of aggressive and auto-aggressive behaviours. These discussions may serve as a point of departure for further theoretical and empirical analyses in the area of aggression in people with psychopathic and narcissistic personality characteristics.
